Spring 2012 Essential SkillsProfessionals helping Professionals.This spring Co-Opera Co. has brought together some of the profession's most eminent practitioners to work with professional opera singers, conductors, directors and répétiteurs at any stage of their career or training in a series of seven one day workshops on the essential skills needed to be a consummate artist. Each workshop runs from 10:30 to 5:30 at the John Macintosh Theatre, Seagrave Road, London SW6 Numbers will be limited for each workshop. Fees for each 6 hour workshop - £175 ( £125 student discount) 10% discount for 4 or more workshops booked at the same time.
Operatic Stagecraft = CommunicationIn this workshop Ryland Davies will be working on communication - the ultimate essential skill of the complete performer - Communication between fellow artists on stage, communication with the conductor in the pit, and most importantly - communicating to the audience. You will be asked to bring arias of your choice in any language - and we might also suggest some scenes too, depending on the voices available - all of which Ryland will "set" during the six hour workshop. This will be a "Master Class" in the true meaning of the phrase - you will be working with a true master of the art of communication and Operatic Stagecraft - the wonderful Ryland Davies.
Stepping into CharacterThis workshop is a practical exploration of acting techniques. You will learn:-How to free your body of excess tension and develop physical confidence. How to connect with and physicalise the text. How to create and inhabit the inner and outer world of your character.Bringing together your singing and acting skills to reveal the 'whole being'.

From Page to Stage Working on audition arias of your choice, in this workshop you will learn the art of releasing the voice from page to stage; you will learn how to join the voice to body and mind by taking the thought further; you will learn to come away from a rigid framework and go further with body and thought, and in turn free the voice to achieve its full potential in auditions and performance.
True Bel CantoIn this workshop we will explore the use of the vocal line to articulate extremes of thought and emotion in music of the Bel Canto period. We will concentrate on control of dynamics and colour, the relationship between verbal and musical text, and the use of ornamentation to heighten emotional effect.
Learning and preparation. This workshop will concentrate on the essentials of preparing a role for musical and production rehearsal, from the basics of accuracy, style and background to the realities of the rehearsal room where the conductor and director expect to be able to focus their work on an interpretation that is personal and precise.
Listening and Reacting In this workshop you will explore the essential skills of listening and reacting by examining the intricate psychology of scenes, and in particular recits, from the perspective not only of your own character but that of your colleagues.The scenes will be chosen well in advance to take into account the participants involved, so early booking is advised.
