Since we first opened our doors in January 2009 Co-Opera Co. has helped over 300 emerging artists, in workshops, Masterclasses and our summer seasons. We have created a new orchestra of 15 players. And we have presented three new productions – Herring, Boheme and Figaro to over 8,000 people throughout the UK.
We have achieved all this with no outside funding.
So far, we have relied on the contributions made by our participants to fund our production costs – there has always been a shortfall however. But we do not cast on ability to pay - we cast on ability to sing the role. In order to help participants, we have provided funding of over £23,000 over the past two years, from the Philip Langridge Bursary Fund and individual sponsors.
In our third year we want to raise the amount of sponsorship to a level which would mean that participants are asked for the bare minimum of contribution – ideally no contribution at all. These singers are after all at the beginning of their careers and already have a burden of debt from student loans.
To launch our Friends’ Scheme we have devised a way in which sponsors can choose a specific singer that they would like to sponsor. Each singer has their own page on the website and you simply fill in the number of pounds you wish to donate in the box on their page.
Once you have made your donation you will automatically become our Friend and the benefits of Friendship with Co-Opera Co. will be emailed to you on receipt of your donation.
You will also receive benefits over and above our Friendship depending on the level of your donation.
To become a sponsor, please follow this link to see the list of singers taking part in the 2011 season.
And thank you in advance for your generosity – however small your contribution – because every penny helps.
