Weekend Workshop -1- Photographs

Recits, dialogue and conversations form the threads which hold an opera together - without them the arias, duets and ensembles would be just disconnected “bleeding chunks” !!! Relationships are formed, developed and sometimes destroyed during these connections. The story is moved on, characters developed, plot shifts introduced. Introductions to arias are also connective tissue, (not just a chance for the orchestra to show off!!! ) Consider the Countess’s first entrance in Figaro..... during the long introduction to Porgi Amor, we as an audience must learn so much about this lady; her status, her state of mind, her sadness.

A full house of singers attended our first weekend workshop

Members in attendance were Sally Burgess, Jacquie Crago, Kate Flowers, Stephen Higgins, Harry Nicoll and Paul Nilon

Weekend Workshop -2- Photographs

Ensembles gain their energy, momentum and emotional life from the preceding recit., dialogue or conversation and either carry the plot forward, comment on the story so far or take us in a completely different direction. When successfully approached, even the most taxing of ensembles to sing can be exhilarating for both audience and singer. In this workshop we will explore this journey into ensembles of varying styles and complexity. Working on extracts from The Rape of Lucretia, The Marriage of Figaro & La Vie Parisienne.

Members in attendance were

Stephen Barlow, Tim Claydon, Kate Flowers, Janis Kelly, Philip Langridge Yvonne Howard,  William Relton
