HOW DOES CO-OPERA CO. WORK?
Co-Opera Co. consists of an ever-growing group of like-minded professionals (Members) who feel it is their duty to pass on their expertise and experience to the next generation.
We do this in a series of workshops, masterclasses and private coaching, culminating in a summer season where we rehearse professional productions of Opera which we then take on tour throughout the United Kingdom.
Co-Opera Co is totally self-funded at the moment. We rely on fees for workshops and contributions for the summer season which go towards our costs; members’ fees, venue hire and production costs.
The fees our members are paid for their work with Co-Opera Co. is a great deal less than they would normally expect to receive but they are willing to take less for the greater good. For the UK Tour we organise and pay for travel and accommodation. Fees are also paid for each performance.
We have also developed a series of Opera Gala’s which added to the tour dates, give our Associate Members valuable paid performance experience.
HOW MUCH?
SUMMER SEASON 2012
Participants become share holders of the productions they perform in. Soloists during the 2011-12 season usually recoup all of the contributions paid by means of the fees Co-Opera Co. paid during the UK tour.
The cost for the 4 week Summer Season 2012 will be as follows:
Soloist £750.00
Cover £600.00
Chorus £500.00
Assistant Conductor/Director £500.00
Répétiteur £500.00
Orchestral Course £200.00-£300.00
All the money raised from fees goes towards production costs, hire of venue, costume, props and tutors fees.
CAN I PAY FOR THE SUMMER SEASON BY INSTALLMENTS?
Absolutely. You can pay weekly or monthly as long as the final payment reaches us 30 days before the start of the course.
AM I CERTAIN OF A ROLE FOR THE MAIN PRODUCTIONS?
No. We have an enormous number of applicants and a limited number of roles.
The director and conductor of each production will cast from those who have applied to sing as soloists.
If you are not given a role, you might be asked to be an understudy and/or sing in the ensemble.
DO I HAVE TO AUDITION?
There are formal auditions for the Summer Season for orchestral musicians, singers and répétiteurs. There is £12.50 application fee which goes towards the cost of venue hire and pianists and administration costs. This is non refundable.
Assistant Conductors and Assistant Directors for the Summer Season will be interviewed
There are no formal auditions for Workshops but singers are required to send a vocal recording, photograph and CV with their on-line application.
DO I GET PAID FOR THE TOURING PRODUCTIONS?
Absolutely!! You are paid a fee for each performance and we organise and pay for your travel from London and accommodation. Everyone receives the same fee. So whether you sing the main role, play flute or cello, are the assistant stage manager or wardrobe mistress, all are paid the same fee
DO I HAVE TO HAVE ANY OPERATIC EXPERIENCE?
No. The point about Co-Opera Co. is that we are here to help anyone who has the potential to have a career in opera – it might be that you have had lots of experience but just feel you need some more help in one direction or another. Or you might never have been on stage but have the potential to have a superb career. There are many orchestral players who want to gain experience in opera, likewise, directors and conductors
WILL I BE ABLE TO GET ONE TO ONE TUITION?
Yes. As an associate member of Co-Opera Co. (Associate Members are those who have participated in any of our training schemes) you will have access to certain members at preferential rates – you can find the list of these members at
